Contact SellerCloverleaf Home Interiors ▼ Here we have a very rare Scottish provincial Darvel rocking chair c1840. As you can see the chair has wonderful original colour and patina. There are around one hundred of these chairs recorded and we are not sure if any are rocking chairs. The darvel chairs follow a particular style and use certain materials in their construction. For more information Google search ‘Darvel Chair’ by Stephen A Hunter. There is a broad top rail and 10 spindles to the back. The hoop arm made from a bent branch of Oak. There is a typical thick American Birch seat shaped to the front to hold the well turned arm supports. The legs and rockers being made from Ash. The chair retains the original varnish/stain which has over the years turned black. A wonderful and very rare chair for the purist collector in great retail condition ready for your home. The dimensions are approx 42 inches high 23 wide and 24 deep including rockers.

Old repair on back leg but seems very solid and a very clean original rocker. 38 inches tall by 22 inches wide by 29 inches wall out between arms. 18 inches wide by 18 inches deep.
