Featured here is a gorgeous Arts & Crafts cube rocking chair, with solid and veneered quarter-sawn oak and full grain, truffle-toned marking leather cushions. When the chair came to us, it was a shadow of its former self, without upholstery and with cracked and chipped oak. We fully restored the piece based on primary and secondary source research, which allowed us to determine the height a
nd style of the cushions. The seat is shaped into a sloped cushion with side welts – difficult to execute in such hearty leather. The back bolster features a full welt and Turkish corners. Incredibly comfortable and an honorable representation of the original form. We were unable to conclusively determine the maker, but the chair is of a quality consistent with Stickley and Grand Rapids furniture we have had before.Leather is a natural product. We hand-select our hides specifically for each frame, and some may include small flaws and natural marks of character. Variation in color and texture are inherent to each hide; no two pieces are exactly alike. Leather will lighten, scuff, and soften to develop a rich patina over time, with age and use.
