Dining room
I wish I knew who made these incredible bentwood chairs because they came out of a beautiful estate with a lot of high-end antique furniture. But alas, I do not, and there are no makers marks to indicate their provenance. So I must advertise them as Thonet-style, heavy cane Bentwood chairs. These are gorgeous chairs, likely from the 40s, but certainly representative of the mid-century modern design aesthetic. There’s a lot of bending on these bentwood chairs, and the carved sabre legs only add to the elegant, curvy aesthetic.

History of TON: In the 1840s Michael Thonet began experimenting with bending beechwood to create dining chairs. By the 1850s Thonets styles had become mainstream and the output of his TON factories became vast. In the 1920s, TON designed and created the 811 Bentwood Cane Dining Armchair, also known as The Prague Chair. And today TONs innovative techniques and furniture designs have expanded to create bentwood stools, tables and accessories.
