The DIY Dabbler's Adventures

Make your own covered, box seat cushions that won’t slip and slide every time you get up or sit down with these simple instructions.

I just can’t sit still. And I mean that quite literally. Even when I am crafting I’m bopping around on my chair and if I am cooking I often find myself bouncing from foot to foot or doing this kind of walking in place thing. It’s kind of insane.I’ve been told all sorts of things. It’s anxiety, its ADD, it’s the fact that I think about a million things at once and my body is trying to keep up. Whatever the reason I often find myself scooting my butt clean off of chairs when I’m really in the zone.To keep my booty a bit more comfortable I got a chair pad to cover a hard wooden dining room chair that is currently serving as my desk chair. Now if I thought I had a hard time keeping on that wood I really know what it’s like to stay seated when I have soft fabric on that wood underneath me. Sure this thing has strings to tie the thing on, but as a bouncer for all of my life I can tell you that those things can rip. And they always do with me.So I just set it on my seat and tried my best to stay still. It didn’t work. Instead of spending 3 times as much on a chair pad that was no slip I grabbed a bottle of Puffy Paint and made my own cheapie cushion no slip for free! For this project you will need: Chair pad Tulip Puffy PaintBoom, cheap pad here we go.This little bottle packs a lot of puff inside. I had enough that I could do 2 chairs with lots and lots of no slip with one bottle. Each bottle sells for around $1 most places and can even be $0.60 if you use a 40% off coupon some place like Michael’s or Hobby Lobby. If you’re worried that you need to be able to draw to do this you can just set that worry aside. All you need to do is make strips of paint about an inch (or less) apart anywhere the cushion will press down on the chair. For instance, the areas that are inset like seen above don’t need anything in them because that is never going to actually touch the wood surface. And even if it did we’ll have more than enough Puffy Paint up in here that it won’t be an issue.I went ahead and made a grid on my chair because, as previously discussed, I am a but wiggler. I figure the more no slip I have the less chance I’m going to be sitting on the ground right next to my chair rather than in it. To be honest, I think that the single lines will work well for most people.Toss that sucker down on your chair (I have NO CLUE what that white stuff is on the chair but I’m pretty sure it’s my fault! I am a messy, messy crafter.) and get ready to stay the heck put!It doesn’t have to be gorgeous and you don’t need to tie the c
hair down either. Just toss Puffy side down and put that booty right on down. As a serious wiggler I can tell you, this thing ain’t going nowhere!

Sitting on a hard wooden or metal chair is just uncomfortable. No need to suffer through another dinner shuffling around in your seat to find a soft spot. Toss these great-looking cushions on your dining room chairs for a quick way to soften up the place.
